Chesapeake Bay Blue Crabs are known for their rich flavor and fatty meat content. Unlike Blue Crabs from the Southern Atlantic, Mexico or Venezuela, the Blue Crabs in the Chesapeake must go through a hibernation to survive the winter. To prepare for the winter hibernation, the Blue Crabs will feed heavily to build up a high reserves to survive the winter. These fat reserves gives Chesapeake Blue Crabs their iconic sweet flavor and set them apart from crabs harvested from any other body of water in the world.
